Many of my new clients panic when I suggest that they eat whole healthy foods for fast weight loss. I can sympathize with them.
Many of my new clients panic when I suggest that they eat whole healthy foods for fast weight loss. I can sympathize with them. As a child I would feel guilty if I ate a second apple in one day or if I wanted a second glass of milk. I had a bigger appetite than my thin siblings, but knew that to eat more than them proved to the world I deserved the extra weight I carried, even if that food was a couple of cucumbers for a snack in the summer. By the time I met my naturopath I weighed 256 pounds and was in a deep depression. I had gone armed with information and demanded blood work to see if my problem was liver/nutrient based. I made some great discoveries and was able to shed the depression and start a raw foods diet that let me lose 136 pounds in 9 months. When I returned to see the naturopath for my final blood work, she showed me the notes she took the first day we met. They said: “Patient views food as poison.”

We both laughed at that, but it was not far from the truth. Not just for me, but as I have learned from helping so many other obese women it is a common theme among the obese. None of us feel that we can trust food because we cannot trust ourselves with it. It has been the cause of all our weight problems, not actual food, but our unhealthy relationship with it. For this reason we come to fear it.

One of the biggest concerns for the obese in our relationship with food is that we have no idea how to eat “normal.” We are great on diets, but outside that structure, all we seem to know is how to overeat. It is that overeating that makes us obese and ill, so in our minds even though we love food and go to it for comfort and joy we know that it is killing us.

One of the first things that becomes very clear when new obese clients start my program, and what they actually all voice is: “I don’t know how to eat like a regular person.” When I tell them I want them to eat 1800 calories their first two weeks to find out what their true maintenance diet will look like, their eyes pop, their voices quake, and they stammer: “1800 calories, that is insane. I will gain weight.” It takes me a while to convince them otherwise.

I check their food every day. The first week is always predictable. The food logs are packed with diet type foods in quantities that wouldn’t satisfy a child. The calories rarely come close to the 1800. For that matter they rarely reach 1500. When I start to question the choices they actually defend the food saying they prefer it to other “real” food. After a long lecture on what we are trying to accomplish the second week is better, but it still takes a while to get them to give in to foods they feared all their lives and to eat enough to feel sated before leaving the dinner table.

No one person is like the next, so no one diet is perfect for everyone. Each person must find the foods that appeal to them without causing them to overeat. Eating foods that are meant for dieters doesn’t work for the obese, but it is all we know. Knowing when and how much to eat is not something left to the diet gurus to tell us, but for us to determine based on what works best for us. This is the only way to lose the weight and maintain it for life. Yet few have the courage to believe it.

That fear of eating that has been hammered into us all these years has to be tackled. The only way to do that is to eat. Sounds simple enough, but in my experience I have found it is harder to get people to eat then it is to get them to diet. Why? Because all we know is deprivation or guilt.

New obese clients are always tentative with their food the first week. When we go over their food list it is always filled with the typical diet foods in quantities that are not worth the bother. When I question them about their choices they will defend the food stating that they really like it. I mean really? Who honestly likes sugar free anything or those rice cakes? For them these foods are treats. What happened to us? Who filled us with so much fear of real food? Breaking through these old habits is tough and it can take weeks.

It takes time and effort to move into a healthy diet, one that is satisfying and can last a lifetime, but it is worth it. Anyone can be successful if they open their mind and fight the fear and guilt associated with eating. Once I convince them that they can eat real food to maintain their weight with real food, shedding the pounds is easy.

Making the decision to not let food, or the fear of it control you is freeing. No longer will you give in to cravings because you believe the food is stronger than you. Food will become what it is meant to be: nutrition and fuel. It is when that happens that the obese can step away from their fat suit for life.

Hunting for gold with the right Gold Panning Tools can be a pleasurable recreation, as well as a profitable one. For one, these tools can be acquired in the market but might be much too pricey than the gold you could essentially find. To cut this expenditure, there are other alternatives in obtaining these very required tools.

These gold panning tools include metal detectors, water-proof boots, gold pans, sniffer bottles, classifier or better known as a strainer, shovels, spades, buckets, rubber gloves, tweezers and more. If you are still a starter in this enterprise, your tools need not cost that much.

Metal detectors can be quite dear but it may be a handy tool if you are after those medium-sized gold nuggets. Metal detectors are a good idea to use if the gold prospect covers a big area. This narrows your search area for those tiny yet valuable bits of gold.

Another handy tool is two water-resistant boots. As a pair of waterproof boots. As a general data, gold is commonly found on wet gravels or cold waters. In order to keep your feet dry, you definitely have to have this type of boot plus a couple socks to keep your feet warm even when it is on the cold or icy waters.

A gold pan is an indispensable tool for gold prospecting. It does not need to be pricey because all gold pans work pretty much the same. You need to to be particular with the brand name or its color.

Sniffer bottles are used to suck up those small gold bits, so don’t forget to include this on your list.

Strainers are used to filter coarse sands and separate the particles from the tiny gold bits.

Obtaining these gold panning tools should be simple because most of them are abundantly sold on hardware and even grocery stores.

by Michael Agusta

Playing too many hands, trying wild bluffs, raising with bad hands, steaming, losing composure, there wouldn’t be enough terms to describe it but your playing a really, really bad poker.

If your emotions get in the way of logical thinking then you are steaming. Making the right decision depends on your level of mental stability. If you are angry, frustrated and pissed off then go home, you are not in the right state of being to play poker. A discipline poker player controls himself, calm exudes him and he is cool and stable. Check out this example of a player on tilt play.

If you lose your job and your house was repossessed by the bank and your boyfriend suddenly leaves you cold, do you think you can make a good decisions?

Steaming is an emotional problem that we are prone to. When poker players steam expect a tilting play or making worst decisions. Bad things happen to all of us and it affects on how we make our decisions.

Once you start steaming, there is no way to stop you. It will only get worst. So the best thing to do is to go home and sleep. Do not waste time on a poker table if you are steaming. Here is an example on what will happen if you let your emotions control your decisions.

It begins with a bad beat and your steaming because you had the superior hand but the winner with a supreme kind of luck won. You’re still thinking about it on the next hand. And then your with a very poor hand this time. And then you try to bet big with a poor hand hoping to get the luck of the guy who win the first hand. And you end up losing! The guy got the pot again for the second row and you’re angry with him and yourself for playing a poor hand to the hilt.

But that’s not where it ended. Matt played well after a number of hands. He thought that the other player had a streak of luck and that’s it. But then, another bad beat made Matt lose thousands of his chips. With this he started remember the first dead beat and the poor hand he played. The he doses of to think about his problems at home and at work… and it never stops..

With this kind of play, Matt will eventually lose his first stake, then his second one, then he will be going to withdraw from his account, then loan from the casino without thinking that lady luck is not on his side tonight.

by Lisa Blackstone

Horse riding games are now being used by many instructors to motivate their students to engage more in learning. Motivation increases when the student riders play a game because games foster play. Play builds up motivation, which supports the learning process by providing incentive. With incentives, students are encouraged to engage in learning.

When the students are having fun with their lessons, they become more eager to learn. Therefore, incorporating horse riding games is vital to horse riding lessons. With motivation, they gain knowledge easier and faster.

Below are examples of horse riding games.

Musical Horses

The game musical horses is very much like musical chairs, only that instead of chairs ground poles are used. The ground poles will be placed such that they are parallel to each other and about 8 feet apart. The poles should look like a parking lot but for horses not for cars. The number of spaces between poles should be one less than the number of riders.

Step 1. Music will be played and the riders with their horses will do a discipline. They will be asked to walk, trot, canter, halt, half circle, reverse or circle.

Step 2. When the music stops, the riders will go to one of the ground pole parking lots while continuously walking or trotting or cantering, etc.

Surely there will be one rider that will not get a space since the ground pole parking lots are one less than the riders. That rider will be eliminated and the number of spaces and the riders will be equal, so one pole must be removed. This will make the spaces between poles one less than the rider again. The last rider to get the one last space will be the winner.

Mounting and Dismounting Game

There will be two riders in this game, who will work as a team. For each team there will be an older rider who can mount from the ground and a little rider with mounting blocks. The younger riders with their mounting blocks will go to the center of the arena. They will keep an eye on their older team mate, who will do the commands.

When the instructor says “halt”, the older rider will stop on the rail. They will dismount while the young riders run from the center to their partners. The older riders will get the little riders on safely and then the younger riders will race back to the mounting block. The last team to get to the mounting block will be out.

The younger riders will then be the one to do what the instructor will command. When the instructor says halt, the older riders will go to the younger riders to help the younger riders dismount. Then the younger riders will go back to the mounting block while the older riders mount. The older riders will ride with no stirrups or in jockey style in little kids stirrups.

The winner will be the last team left.

Horse riding games have rules that create artificial conflicts. Playing these games also creates in the riders the common goals that only one team or one person can only have. So, strategic ability is developed. Another advantage of horse riding games is that they promote interaction between riders.

Jackie Christie, wife of NBA star Doug Christie and the star of hit TV reality show, Committed the Christies, co-author of No Ordinary Love: A True Story of Marriage and Basketball, returns with this highly inspirational, life changing book, Woman: A Practical Guide to Loving the Skin You’re In.

Written for women who know how to do just about everything, except to pamper themselves, Woman gives new beauty and fashion secrets as well as way to increase self-esteem. The book contains hot, money-saving tips on where and what to buy and what men as well as other women find sexy.

Read about 25 women who inspire Jackie and be moved by Maya Angelou’s poetry. Women who embark on this journey with Jackie will be nurtured and entertained while learning how to get their groove back!

“I feel that sexy is the combination of one’s attributes…from a simple smile, to one’s voice, or posture. I think sexy is more than a look, but rather the sum total of one’s character. I think loyalty is sexy, honesty is sexy, pleasing one’s partner is sexy, motherhood is sexy, cooked food is sexy, intelligence is sexy, independence is sexy, and the black woman is sexy.” - Chris Webber, Professional Basketball Player, NBA

“Jackie, you’re a beautiful woman and great example for women, everywhere! You do not let anything stop you from accomplishing what you want. This book will give me and all women an excellent foundation for regaining our self-esteem and love” - Betty Jones, Executive Director of Community Affairs

As a mother, wife, fashion model, and career driven woman, Jackie’s personal experiences are shown throughout the book. She reaffirms the idea that women should succeed without the fear of failure. The book reflects how women should take control of how they look, and feel, and to build on their self worth.

It is no wonder that many young athletes enjoy competing in youth football games since it is one of the most popular sports. Wanting to play youth football is one thing, while knowing how to play football is what matters. Youth football can seem overly complex unless it is introduced with a good overview. Once it is properly explained the confusion will fade to understanding. This article will explain the basics of how to play football.

A youth football game takes place on a football field that is 100 yards long. On this playing field there are yard markers which detail where the ball is placed to be placed after each down. (We’ll get to downs a little later on in our explanation of how to play football.) On both sides of the field are end zones. While on offense, the goal of a team is to bring the ball into the end zone in order to score. While on defense, the main goal is to prevent the other team from scoring.

Of course, there is no opened ended time commitment to this and anyone wishing to learn how to play football needs to understand the issue of time periods. Specifically, youth football is broken into four quarters of 15 minutes each. There is a 12 minute halftime in between the two quarters. During the actual quarters, a team has 40 seconds to snap a football or face a penalty. But, what happens if the game is tied by the end of the 4th quarter? A 15 minute sudden death overtime will be enacted. If the 15 minutes elapses and no one scores, the game is ruled a tie. So, it is safe to say, understanding the concept of the clock is critical to understanding how to play football.

When trying to learn how to play football, it is critical to clearly understand what happens during a game. Each football team has two different facets: an offense and defense. When one team is playing offense, the opponents will be on defense. The team that possesses the ball is the offensive team and their quarterback will try to pass the ball or hand it off to another player. The player that has the ball will try to run to the end zone in order to score points. When the defensive team tackles the runner, this is considered a down. A down is also called if a player runs out of bounds. The defensive team will gain possession of the football at the place where the 4th down occurs. Usually the offensive team will kick the ball after the third down in order to move the ball as far from the opponents’ goal as possible.

Note: if the defensive team catches a pass or if the offensive runner drops the ball and defense picks it up, defense immediately gains possession of the ball. Defense can immediately run the ball in order to score. Again, such rules show that learning how to play youth football often relies on an understanding of the incidentals of the game.

A clear understanding of how to play football will revolve around understanding how points are scored. Specifically, there are several ways to score points and they include:

A Touchdown: When a team catches or runs the ball in the opposing team’s end zone, they will acquire 6 points.

Extra Point/Two point conversion: After a touchdown is successfully scored, the team can either kick a 1 point field goal or try to run/pass the ball from the 10th yard line to score an extra 2 points.

Extra Point/Two point conversion: After a touchdown is scored, the scoring team can choose to kick a field goal that is worth one point or attempt to run/pass the ball from the 10th yard line in order to score 2 points.

Safety: This is a scoring strategy many people learning how to play football are unaware of since it happens almost incidentally. Basically, if the team on offense is tackled in its own end zone, the defensive team will receive 2 points.

If you’ve of late been reading over different research items on the Internet, or in the real world, you should now have encountered the claim that developing the six pack abs can potentially occur within a week. What is there involved in that theory and is it possible? Unless you have the opportunity to discuss with someone or you’ve seen the improvement with your own eyes could you actually know whether it is true or false? The following article is generous enough to give you a precise explanation.

The biggest problem is that there’s no truth to the claim that the flat abs which everyone clearly desires can really be attained in a week. A week would not be adequate to trim a bad looking stomach. Everything is simply a misunderstanding and if you really examine it, fat can’t be developed to muscular tissue in such a short time. It is not a sweet roll which you may make in a day so keep reading to get a more realistic explanation.

The truth is that the best abs ever could just be attained when you join the right routine with that of a good dose of good dietary habits. Indeed, you may be doing crunches as well as sit ups till you perspire like there is no tomorrow however, if you do not have the goal of increasing your metabolism, nothing will proceed properly.

Another myth that is involved in the idea of getting those good looking abs is that you must work the muscles by doing repetitive sets of exercises. What you need to understand is that all people have abs but most people’s are buried under the unneeded stomach fat so it is only right for you to understand that dropping the tummy fat is the key to great abs. The high level exercise will create an effect which will nonetheless set your blood flowing so that the body is ready enough to vanquish that fat in the stomach region.

If you truly wish to shake off that tummy fat of yours, all that you have to do is to burn it off. Dedicate a minimum of fifteen minutes give or take hit the heavy exercises which would specialize on the mid-section. You have two options and they are either to work out the old fashioned way or to use a machine.

The next thing that you must watch out for is the your nutrition so eat the right food at the right time. According to the experts, it is best to take six small servings of meals in one day that will keep your metabolism working at its best so it can burn the fat as well as additional calorie deposits. Eat foods which are abundant in proteins, carbohydrates, and all of the needed fats, although, everything must be in moderation.

Do this for at least two months straight and then you will gradually earn the much desired six pack abs! However, you must be unhurried as well as diligent if you wish to bask in the results the hard work you have put into it.

by Leroy Calstard

When people think of golf many figure that the game was created within the last century or at the most in the 19th century but it is actually older than that. Most agree that the Scottish were the first golfers to become addicted to the sport. In fact, James II of Scotland banned golf for more serous combat drills.

There is a debate about golf however, regarding which country should be credited with inventing the sport. It has been suggested that sheepherders developed the sport out of boredom. They would hit around stones into foxholes with their shepherd staffs. Since it was men who were doing this (and men are competitive in nature) it became a sport. In the early 14th century there were various versions of golf played in several central European countries, including Scotland.

While what country developed the game is controversial, it is a historical fact that James VI, a Scottish Baron, delivered golf to the English. In its infancy, golf was played for many years on reasonably flat earth that was rugged and unkempt. Holes were crudely dug out of the earth. Rules were not standardized and varied between countries and even players.

The first to organize a golf club was a group of Edinburgh players in 1744 and it was called the Honourable Company of Edinburgh. At that time the first 13 rules were drawn up for the club’s annual competition. Only players from Great Britain and Ireland competed in the first competition. Outside of Scotland, one of the earliest golf clubs was the Royal Blackheath Golf Club of England. That was in 1766 and more followed in the early 1800’s.

North America had caught onto the sport by the late 1800; the Royal Montreal Club and the Quebec Golf Club were the first ones. The United States didn’t receive a golf club until 1888 but when it did hit the U.S. its popularity grew quickly. John Reid, a Scotsman, was the first to build golf courses in Yonkers, New York. It’s popularity grew so fast in the U.S. that between 1891 and 1900 more than a thousand golf clubs opened up in North America.

From sheepherders hitting rocks into holes with canes to professional matches with millions of dollars in winnings, golf sure has evolved in just a few centuries. While the the game has changed very little in the last century, its access to people of different genders and social classes has brought golf a new appeal and audience.
